How to show My Computer in Desktop in Windows 8
We all know that Windows 8 Developer Preview was released two months ago and most of you might be playing with the new features of Windows 8. Normally after a fresh install of Windows we use 'Start -> My Computer -> Show on Desktop' method to bring the 'My Computer' icon on to the desktop. But in Windows 8 it is different.
Lot of new features were added to Windows 8 Developer Preview to make it more touch screen friendly. This has made it difficult to find and tweak common settings a little bit difficult. Like any other Windows operating system, you will see just Recycle Bin icon in the desktop after a fresh install. It was very easy in earlier operating systems like Windows 7 to put My Computer icon on the desktop. You just need to go to Start Menu and select 'Show on Desktop' for the My computer icon. But Windows 8 Developer Preview is missing the normal start menu by default. So now there is no option to select 'Show my Desktop' anymore. Here is a simple method on how to show 'My Computer' icon in Windows 8, please follow the steps given below.
- First you need to click on Desktop tile in Metro UI. This brings the normal old desktop
- Now right click anywhere on the desktop and select Personalize
- Now you will see the personalization screen. In this screen click on 'Change desktop icons'. Here you can select the icons you want to display in Windows 8 desktop.
- So you can select 'My Computer' icon by ticking the check box next to it. Other icons like Control Panel and Network icons can also be displayed by using his method.
- Now click on 'Apply'. Now you should be able to see the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop
