Simple tricks using the autorun.inf file to change the driveIcon in windows

What is Autorun.inf?

An autorun.inf file is a text format file, which holds the information about AutoRun and AutoPlay components of Windows Operating systems. To make the autorun.inf file work, it should place in root directory (e.g., C\ autorun.inf D:\ autorun.inf)
Note:-Windows has a case-insensitive view of filenames, the autorun.inf file can be stored as AutoRun.inf or Autorun.INF or any other case combination.
By default you drive icon will look like the below image

Don’t you get frustrated by looking at the same icon every time? Here’ve are going to showing you how to change the drive icon, follow the simple steps and you can change it whenever you wanted.

Steps for How to Change drive icon

1. Place an icon file in a drive, you can also place it in a directory, you can also place the icon file in different directory and make sure the icon path is directed to the icon file

2. Open notepad and type
[AutoRun]
Icon=windows.ico
If you have placed the icon in different folder, type in a path of the icon to grab the icon file form the directory path e.g., Icon=C:\Praveen\windows.ico
 3. Save the file text file in .inf format, The Autorun.inf file must be located in the root directory


4. Now the icon file autorun.inf file had pleased in root directory of the removal media to see the changes remove it and plug back in.
Note: - You can make changes for any other drive of your system, to see the changes you need torestart the system once, so the shell will recognize the autorun.inf in the root directory
